Description
Dovetail twistlocks are used at the bottom corners of containers, either to handle longitudinal forces due to torsional deformation of the ship’s hull, or when the twistlocks need to be easily removed to create a flat stowage surface.
These twistlocks are attached into a dovetail frame, which makes them easy to attach and detach, leaving only the frame fixed.
A dovetail frame does not build as much height as a conventional twistlock foundation would, and therefore it is popular for areas where there is a need to keep the loading deck surface free from protruding fittings, e.g. in case of multi-purpose cargoes.
